According to Bone: ''The immortal dramatic composer and poet displayed his interest in the guitar on several occasions and it is common knowledge that his preliminary inspirations were frequently worked out on the guitar...the tuning of the instrument was elaborated by Wagner (in the Mesitersinger) into one of the most remarkable fugues ever conceived''
