Any ideas on what the + sign means in French music around the 1770s? In 
the sources, trills are noted by 'tr' so presumably it's not a trill - 
though a trill sounds right. Appoggiaturas are notated too, so 
presumably the + is not an appoggiatura. But the contexts do suggest 
something above the target note coming down to it.
