Dear EasyBuilders,

It is my pleasure to announce the release of EasyBuild version 3.9.3 [1].

This release is so good that I just *had* to push it out before taking some summer vacation, holding it back from you any longer would be a capital crime...

This is a bugfix/update release, with one of the driving forces being adding support for installing the upcoming EasyBuild v4.0 (more on that soon...).

Highlights include:

* only require vsc-base for EasyBuild 2.x and 3.x in EasyBuildMeta easyblock

* updates/bug fixes for CMakeMake generic easyblock and the GCC, HEALPix, HPCG, Modeller, OpenBLAS, OpenFOAM, Rosetta, SNPhylo and SWIG software-specific easyblocks

* added support for 25 new software packages, incl. AtomPAW, deal.II, OR-Tools, ReFrame, and X!Tandem

* updates for already supported software, incl. ABINIT 8.10.3, CFITSIO 3.47, GDB 8.3, GROMACS 2019.3, HEALPix 3.50, HPCG 3.1, Nilearn 0.5.2, OpenBLAS 0.3.6, Xerces-C++ 3.2.0, ...

* fixed checksum (again...) for boot 1.3-22 extension in R 3.6.0 easyconfig

  * various additional bug fixes, updates & enhancements

This brings the total number of supported software packages to 1,805!
An up-to-date list of supported software is available at [2].

A detailed overview of all changes is available in the release notes [3].

These changes result from a whole bunch of merged contributions, by 23 different contributors:

- 6 merged pull requests for EasyBuild framework
- 17 merged pull requests for easyblocks
- 71 merged pull requests for easyconfigs

Thanks to everyone who contributed to this release in one way or another!

To upgrade to EasyBuild v3.9.3, there are several options [4].
Two particularly easy options include:

    * eb --install-latest-eb-release

    * eb --from-pr 8553               # use easyconfig from PR #8553 [5]

Enjoy!
