Our main goal for this merge sprint was to significantly push down the
amount of open easyconfig PRs, to make things a bit more manageable.
We processed (merged or closed) over 300 PRs already this week (counting
from Monday morning), which is making a big difference.
There definitely was a focused on low-hanging fruit for this sprint:
identifying PRs that should be closed (stale PRs, deprecated/unsupported
toolchains, etc.) and focusing on contributors that have a lot of open
PRs (again because the majority of those are low-hanging fruit).
Going from over/close to 1,000 PRs to the less than 670 open PRs now
helps, it makes it (a bit) less likely that contributions "drown"
between others.
We do have more work to do to really get back on top of things, which is
why we'll try and make this a frequent effort by trying to schedule a
merge sprint every other month.
That said: we get ovr 2.500 easyconfig PRs per year, so sometimes
contributions will get "snowed under", and don't get the attention they
deserve.
We're doing what we can to improve the situation, the significant effort
that was spent these last couple of days is a clear sign of that, but
there's no silver bullet here, it really still boils down to time (often
volunteered time), effort, focus, etc.
