Heya. Some comments in-line:
Immediate Problems
11111>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
This Install error is a pop-up with message "IPersistFile::Save failed code
0x8007005 Access is denied.
Yikes. This is an error due to the InnoSetup installer.
Does the user you're logged in as have priviledge to install to
the "Programs" directory? If not, I can send you a Zip file that
has the binaries, and you can install it "manually".
~~~~~~ well, I'm administrator and everything I've installed upto now was no
problem
~~~~~~ That was before sp2 though. I'll do some health checks and access
checks
~~~~~~ as soon as I can and report back.
The WAN to which we connect from work is pretty secure though I can get to
my router at home although not past that for VNC
Is it possible that the demo server itself is blocked by "them".
As access is via a proxy, I can't simply ping demo.echovnc.com
~ or do a local nslookup on {was "it", read as "any internet address"}
Yes, it appears that your workplace LAN is blocking access
to demo.echovnc.com. We don't yet have proxy-support added to
EchoVNC; once we do, it should connect. A possible workaround is to
run your own echoServer on TCP-443 somewhere; many proxies allow
outbound access to that port by default. To test that, try opening
an SSH client to "demo.echovnc.com" on TCP-443. I'm running an SSH
server there now so you can test this.
~~~~ I'll do that test later today when at work. I had failed to appreciate
~~~~ that echovnc didn't do proxies because it was something I wanted so
much
~~~~ that I conned myself.
~~~~Apologies
~~~ meanwhile, i got seriously confused with forum login at the end of the
day;
~~~ I thought I'd registered but even with that secret message text I
couldn't get back in
~~~ with the password (and variants just in case) that I recall i set up. I
will try again
~~~ in a less fraught period at work. Until then, I can easily read the
archives
~~~ and send e-mail, but I'd guess that requires moderation to attach
replies to existing
~~~ threads or create new ones. I might try an alternate mail address to
register and audit-copy
~~~ everything I did more carefully next time.
~~~ Until later then, Mark
