Robert:

Heya. Nope, you did everything right:

1. Logon to the echoServer from PC-1 with a login ID "User-1"
(or whatever login name you want)

2. Logon to the same echoServer from PC-2 with a login ID
"User-2" (or whatever)

3. On PC-2, start an EchoVNC connection, putting in "User-1"
as your desired "Partner-ID".

As long as the chosen "User-1" and "User-ID" login ID
values are *different*, it should work just fine.

In your case...I think the problem was bad timing: the
demo server appears to have crashed while you were using
it. :) Should be better now...please let me know if it gives you
any more trouble.

Scott,

Thanks for your help on the UltraVNC Forum (this is Robert). With the information you supplied I was able to use EchoVNC to establish a connection. Well, sort of. I have two PC on my home LAN. They are both behind a D-Link router. I have used UltraVNC to connect between these machines over my LAN without difficulty. I decided to use these two PC's to test a VNC connection over the Internet. I installed EchoVNC on both machines, and enabled the first PC to accept inbound connections. I was able to establish a connection from both machines to the EchoVNC Demo Server. Once both machines were connected to the Echo Server, I started the UltraVNC Server on my first PC. I then selected the "Start a VNC Connection" tab on my second PC where I intended to run the EchoVNC Viewer. A connection detail pop-up appears, and then the Viewer Login Password screen appeared. I entered the password that I specified on the first PC in the UltraVNC Server dialog box. This was accepted and a window appeared on the second PC showing the first PC's Desktop. After about 2 seconds this window closes without an error message being displayed. I must be very close to having this working, but I don't have any idea what I should do next to solve this problem. Is this a valid test, or is trying to connect two PC's on the same LAN using this method a no-no? Thanks.
