So I today had some time to do a small test and the following function
indeed seems to work better in general.

(defimplementation arglist (name)
  (let ((arglist (ext:get-annotation name :lambda-list nil)))
    (if (or (null arglist) (stringp arglist))
        :not-available
        arglist)))
