As of 6p.m. the situation was not resolved. Yesterday there was a
possibility of a peaceful settlement. Today a peaceful solution is
at risk. A TV reporter said "the RCMP patience is growing thin." As

a tax-payer in British Columbia, Canada, I think I'm paying the RCMP
to continue to *be patient*, not to kill people.

To Nellie: If by tomorrow you haven't heard from anyone re
historical background of Gustafson Lake e-mail me and I will see if I

can find someone from my area who might have the info you seek.

The Vancouver Sun and the popular press give one version of the
situation. If you can access the Newsgroup soc.culture.native and
alt.native you
will find posts by supporters of the protestors, local Native bands
and by Kim Goldberg at columnist for the Nanaimo Times. Kim may be
someone to contact for more information. If you can't get the
newsgroup I will send you her recent column through my e-mail.

I have a few posts from another newsgroup re Gustafson Lake and
Ipperwash in Ontario where a Native man was shot by the OPP and can
forward to anyone interested. L.
