i've recently joined this list, and as i haven't been on the
net long, please excuse any faux pas on my part--i've really
been enjoying the discussions the last week or two, i just
have a hard time keeping up with the volume of mail!! my b.a.
is in psychology, and i have a number of post-grad hours in
women's studies--unfortunately due to unforseen financial
changes in my life a year ago i had to stop out of school for
awhile, so this list is giving me the discussions i miss! i
am currently working in (scholarly) publishing--
anyway, i have to reply, doug, to your comment about patriarchy
weakening--i strongly agree with t.j. "until all humans are free,
no humans are free..." -- besides, imo, patriarchy isn't just
about women not being *independent* (you said women are much more
independent now than 20/50/100 years ago), but about women (and
men and animals and the environment, etc.) being **valued**
