Spring 1997 Dear Environmentalist, Libraries for the Future would like to connect with you or your organization. Libraries for the Future is a national organization of public library advocates. We educate and activate potential and current library users to become library advocates and to enhance the relationship between libraries and communities, particularly those with limited resources. Libraries for the Future has revised and updated The Environmentalist's Guide to the Public Library, an information handbook for environmental organizers. It provides advice for environmentalists on how to draw on resources at the public library, profiles of model library programs and the environmental advocates who helped create them, and tips on how to work with libraries to increase access to environmental information. We know that you are working hard to finalize your activities for Earth Day 1997. Can you include us in your plans? Following are two simple ways that your organization can participate in helping us spread the word about how libraries can be a tool for your environmental organizing efforts. 1) Include an announcement or an LFF ad-slicks in your newsletter. Your organization will receive two free copies of the revised Environmentalist's Guide to the Public Library and any member from your network interested in the publication will also receive the Guide for free. 2) Participate in our Pump Up the Volume Campaign, whereby you encourage members of your organization to check out a book on an environmental issue from their local library on Earth Day. We also encourage you to distribute materials about your Earth Day activities at your local library. Public libraries are a national resource like our national parks--an information "green space" where free information can be found.
