Hello!
My name is Lagusta Yearwood, I am new to this list (and excited I found
it!). I am a junior at the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY
majoring in English and Women's Studies, and I have recently become
extremely interested in the philosophy of ecofeminism. I have been
active in animal rights for years, am currently pres. of the environmental
group at my school, and have always cared about feminist issues, so
ecofeminism seems to me to be a wonderful bringing-together of all the
things I am interested in.
I've read books and articles on it and have done school papers on it, and
I am thinking that it is something that I would like to focus on
throughout my life, possibly by teaching classes on it on a University
level.
So, I am looking for graduate schools where I could focus on ecofeminism
and was wondering if anyone on this list-serv could help me. Do you know of any
schools that have classes on it at a
graduate level (I found a few at an undergrad level) classes/programs? Or
do you have any ideas about integrating ecofeminist ideas into other
programs (if this makes any sense, I am interested in the more
literature/textual/philosophical aspects of it rather than the more
scientific aspects)?
I am also just looking for less-mainstream, less corporate-ized schools
(the president of my school was originally a banker, if that says anything
about my current university atmosphere) where learning (and revolution,
and things like that) are more important than grades and degrees (and
the frat culture and things like that).
So, if anyone has any ideas/resources/tips/etc for me, I would appreciate
them! I guess you should e-mail me privately (although I wonder if there
are more students like me out there?). If you have already had a
discussion like this one, I'm sorry for being new!
