Marguerite - you are a doomsayer - we are well aware of the animals plights -
I told you I distributed info about PETA - That is doing something besides
shedding your blightful tears! Helping others become vegan would serve a
greater postive purpose then writing poems about their miserable plight to
help others shed tears!

++Sorry Angela, my view of life is very different to your own. As species
decline and I battle to try and have our new legislation at least address the
basic rights and needs of animals, I'll try and remember your words of
comfort to stay smiling and thinking everything is "cool" and "wonderful".

++This is a nonsensical analogy. "expending emotional energy in creating
poetry"? Firstly, strange that you didn't say this of Angela's poem regarding
how wonderful the world is if we all smile and believe in God (I'll remember
this one next time I hear the poor fellow talking who sits on the ethics
committee trying to make things "better" for the animals tortured in the
research lab) Secondly, I do "Act" and so do many others who are trying to
improve the environment and the way animals are treated. Poetry is a
powerful expressive art form that many people use to express their views and
convey the
way they see events happening around them. Poetry is often a frontline way
of making people think about what is happening in everyday life in a way
they never have before. Feminist poetry, animals rights poetry,
environmental poetry are all wonderful means of communication between
humans. Poems are also a very good means of expression for those who battle
the sheer frustration of the entrenched and systematic abuse of animals and
the environment (from the intensive farming of intelligent pigs to the
hacking away of our old growth forests).
++Far from being a "doomsayer", I don't feel that writing a poem to expose the
abuse of animals or the environment is anything else but exposing the facts
of life. Daily I pass the three tier live sheep trucks taking the poor hapless
sheep to the live sheep ships. Sometimes I see a truck filled with
intelligent happy looking pigs heading for a grim death, dragged to
slaughter. This is fact
not doomsaying. Right now there are rumours that koalas and kangaroos and
wallabies are soon to be the targets of certain Government departments in a
campaign of slaughter. So what's next? As I've said before, if there is a God,
he/she has made an enormous mistake putting humans on this Earth. However,
the way we are progressing, I have no doubt we are hastening our own demise,
and as far as I'm concerned, the sooner the better.
