Radcliffe College is announcing the launching of preparations for the next volu
me of Notable American Women: A Biographical Dictionary.  It will include 500-6
00 women who will have died between January 1, 1976, and January 1, 2000, with
an expected publication date of 2003.  This volume will follow the criteria for
 selection used in the earlier volumes: 1) the subject's influence on her times
 or field; 2) ability; 3) innovative or pioneering work; 4) relevance of her ca
reer for the history of women.  They are actively soliciting suggestion sof pos
sible subjects for their database, expecially nominations reflecting the contri
butions of underdocumented groups, regions, or specialties.  If you wish to nom
inate a subject(s), please supply a short synopsis of her career and its impor
tance, as well as basic bibliographic sources, both secondary and archival (if
known).  We also welcome the namees of scholars who are interested in writing s
pecific articles or serving a consultants for specialized fields.
