Any hierarchichal system is susceptible to competitive abuse, be it
governmental, corporate, labor union, or religious/ecclesiastical.
However, it does not REQUIRE abuse. Self-actualization may be
pursued in any system without slipsliding into the undermining of
others; it's all up to the attitude with which the individual approaches
the system and her/his compatriot civil servants, workers, executives
and ministers. Representative democracy, however, is based upon
politicians competing for the approving votes of those whom they
wish to represent. I see no way to avoid such preference polls while
still retaining some modicum of responsibility and accountability to
the people from the politicians. Joe
