CALL FOR PAPERS

Papers are invited for the sixth annual Interdisciplinary Gender Studies
Conference Central Coast Campus, University of Newcastle, Ourimbah, NSW Friday,
4 June 1999

Proposals may be in any discipline or cross-disciplinary in nature, and may be
individual papers or panels. Suggested themes include the evolution of
masculine identities, gender and education, and the social and cultural
consequences of trauma but all topics related to gender will be considered.
Postgraduate students are particularly encouraged to participate. Presenters
will be allocated 20 minutes for their papers (approximately 2500 words).

The keynote address will be given by Lyndall Ryan, Foundation Professor of
Australian Studies at the Central Coast Campus. The Campus, which is
celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, is located at Ourimbah and is
accessible via the F3 Freeway and Ourimbah Railway Station. The conference will
include lunch and will provide opportunities for discussion. Our intention is
to provide a less formal setting for a creative and reflexive exchange of ideas,
opinions, and experiences among the participants.

Abstracts of 200 words for both free standing papers and papers within panels
should be submitted, preferably in computer file form, by 15 April 1999. Those
selected for presentation will be considered for publication by the refereed
Journal of Interdisciplinary Gender Studies (jigs) published by the University
of Newcastle.
