I second all of this. The paper I'm trying to write (about ecofeminism,
deep ecology, radical feminism) feels like it should include components of
this whole nasty, angry debate between 'factions'. It disappoints me when
the left breaks up into diversity (various feminisms, environmentalisms,
postmodernism, etc. etc.) which we respect, only to end up in
catfighting...

I don't know about you but I came here to find out about ecofeminism. A
lot of what I've hear so far is mudslinging, immature whining. That there
are sexist people in the newsgroup - well, yes, Usenet and listservs are
written by humans afterall. The opinions we find offensive are disturbing
- reality is disturbing enough - but for once I'd like to see some kind of
defense other than name calling or 'I'm being kicked off the listserv - but
you can't coz I leave! Ha! (the old 'you can't fire me coz I quit')'. If
they disturb you so much, challenge them by education not ad hominem
attacks, but if they don't change overnight, then start a
newsgroup/listserv of your own, and make it invite only so you can block
out who you want. (end of rant)

Now that my childish rant is over, I have to say that I agree with Donna
and Elizabeth's wise words...
We do need every one in support of ecofeminism. For now, giving ourselves
the benefit of the doubt seems more caring, respectiveful and responsible
in the long run somehow... we should be willing to challenge our
presuppositions (especially if they're outmoded or insensitive) but we
should remember that despite our differences we are here because of our
belief in ecofeminism. Let's direct anger at those who are worthy of our
ire. Actually, let me just say 'ditto Elizabeth and Donna'. I'm not
articulate today.

(end of rant, for sure, this time)
