DaimlerChrysler unveils concept car

WASHINGTON (AP) - DaimlerChrysler has built a compact car powered by fuel
cells that seats five people, goes 280 miles before refueling and travels
as fast as 90 mph. The concept car, called Necar 4, is the latest
demonstration of progress on fuel cell cars as the world's automakers
continue their race to bring such cars to market by 2004. Fuel cells
convert hydrogen and oxygen into electricity to power a vehicle. The car
was formally unveiled Wednesday by DaimlerChrysler chairmen Robert Eaton
and Juergen Schrempp at a press conference attended by Environmental
Protection Agency officials at the Ronald Reagan International Trade
Center. The Necar 4, based on the Mercedes-Benz A-class compact car sold in
Europe, accelerates easily from 0 to 30 and beyond. See full story

Foresters sue over spray paint

RENO, Nev. (AP) - Current and former employees of the Forest Service are
suing the agency to stop the use of a tree-marking spray paint they say
causes miscarriages and other ailments. The lawsuit, filed last week in
Washington, says the Forest Service has been breaking the law by using the
specialized, all-weather paint without an environmental impact statement on
possible side effects. The paint has been used widely in national forests
over the past 10 years to mark trees for logging. In 1993, an estimated
3,000 people - 80% of them men - worked on crews using the paint. Workers
have also complained of blurry vision, confusion, nausea, fatigue, chronic
sinus irritation, headaches and diarrhea. See full story
