FOREST PRACTICES ADAPTIVE MANAGEMENT DIRECTOR

The Washington Department of Natural Resources is seeking an experienced science 
manager to serve as Forest Practices Adaptive Management Director.  The Director will 
manage a monitoring and research program associated with implementation of the Forests 
and Fish legislation and Forest Practices 
Rules in Washington State.  This program is critical to assuring success in protecting 
fish, water quality, and riparian-dependent amphibians on state and private forest 
lands for the next 50 years. 
 A successful Director will possess a strong background in natural resource sciences, 
excellent man
agerial skills, and well-developed abilities to work collaboratively, solve problems, 
and resolve d
ifferences among program participants.

This is a permanent position with medical, leave, and retirement benefits.  Minimum 
requirements ar
e a M.A./M.S. degree in a natural resource science and two years professional 
experience managing a
 research program or monitoring/researching aquatic resources in a forest environment; 
a Ph.D. degr
ee in a natural resource science will substitute for all of the experience.  Preferred 
qualificatio
ns are a M.A./M.S. or Ph.D. degree in a natural resource science, 5 years experience 
in monitoring 
or research, 2 years experience managing a team of scientists, and 2 years experience 
developing/ma
