Anti-Fur Protesters Post Protest on Chanel Web Site

PARIS (Reuters) - Animal rights activists hacked into French fashion house
Chanel's Web site and posted a protest against fur clothes only hours before
the label presented its latest haute couture collection Tuesday.

The protest, complete with gory pictures of animals slaughtered for their fur,
accused fashion designers using fur in their creations of being murderers.

``We had a hacker,'' a Chanel spokeswoman said at the start of the label's
spring-summer show in Paris.

``We closed the site this morning and we are reopening it this evening. We are
going to conduct an investigation.''

After years of being unpopular, fur has been making a comeback on the catwalks
as designers resume using it despite continued protests from animal rights
activists.

Chanel's show unveiled by German designer Karl Lagerfeld had no fur at all, but
British designer John Galliano highlighted the Christian Dior show Monday with
raccoon hats and fox fur stoles.
