The positions involve habitat assessments along the San Joaquin River corridor; participate in ecological research on riparian communities. A working knowledge of the natural communities of central California is helpful, but not required. At minimum, the successful candidates are expected to rapidly become familiar with riparian communities of central California and with the relevant survey and research methods; have the ability to work under supervision and also be self-directed; have the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers, agency staff, and the general public; have experience with data entry, statistical analysis, and database management using MS-DOS/Windows based computers; demonstrated ability to analyze and summarize data and to develop written reports on results of research; ability to camp overnight at unimproved research sites periodically; ability to walk up to 12 miles per day over rough and steep terrain and work outdoors in all types of weather; safely operate four-wheel drive vehicles; work at sites to include, but not limited to, Fresno, Madera, and Merced counties; possess a valid California driver's license, and ability to obtain a California defensive driver's certificate. The position involves habitat assessments along the San Joaquin River corridor; participates in and coordinates ecological research on riparian communities and associated animal and plant species; and conducts field studies including planning, logistical arrangements, data collection and analysis, and report preparation. Emphasis will be placed on database development and the provision of planning assistance to government agencies and their partners. The Project Coordinator will work closely with the ESRP Director and agency staff, including the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation and the California Dept. of Fish & Game in planning cooperative research activities and making public presentations. The Project Coordinator will also be required to collaborate with and supervise staff biologists, consultants, and interns. HIGHLY DESIRED SKILLS: Candidates with skills in wildlife research and experience in riparian, wetland or oak communities are particularly encouraged to apply.
