Dear ECOLOG-L Community, My name is Connor Ramming, and I’m the founder of Coastal Bluegrass Solutions, an emerging nonprofit based in Florida. Our organization is focused on advancing the restoration of coastal ecosystems through applied research in seagrass restoration, sustainable aquaculture, and blue carbon solutions. Our goal is to develop and implement scalable, science-driven techniques to address habitat loss, improve carbon sequestration, and support marine biodiversity in coastal environments. We are currently working on a pilot project that includes the following key research areas:
* Seagrass Aquaculture & Restoration: We are investigating the ecological resilience of Halodule wrightii ecotypes under various environmental conditions. Our research is aimed at identifying and cultivating more resilient strains of seagrass to enhance restoration efforts in degraded coastal areas. This work includes examining the role of genetic diversity, transplant success, and stress tolerance in the context of climate change and coastal development. * Blue Carbon & Carbon Credit Initiatives: We are exploring the potential for restored seagrass beds to contribute to blue carbon markets. Our research focuses on quantifying the carbon sequestration potential of seagrass ecosystems, including the rates of carbon uptake and storage over time. We are also investigating the long-term impacts of seagrass restoration on carbon dynamics in coastal ecosystems. * Sustainable Aquaculture for Ecosystem Health: Our aquaculture research aims to reduce pressure on wild marine populations by cultivating species that contribute to ecosystem restoration. We are particularly focused on developing aquaculture systems for associated species with seagrasses that help improve the overall ecosystem health. While we are still in the early stages of these projects, we are actively seeking collaboration and feedback from other researchers and practitioners in the fields of coastal ecology, restoration science, and marine policy. We are particularly interested in discussions surrounding restoration methodologies, the role of blue carbon in mitigating climate change, and the latest advancements in sustainable aquaculture. If you have experience in these areas, or if you are interested in exploring potential collaborations, I would be grateful to connect. Feel free to reach out directly at [email protected] , and you can also learn more about our work at www.coastalbluegrass.com<https://coastalbluegrass.com>. Looking forward to engaging with the community and advancing our shared goals of coastal ecosystem restoration.
