The National Wind Coordinating Committee (NWCC) is calling for
submission of papers for its Wildlife Research Meeting VI, November
14-15, 2006 in San Antonio, TX. The purpose of the workshop is to
bring interested stakeholders up to date on research being conducted
to understand the interaction of birds, bats, other wildlife, and
their habitats with wind energy facilities; to examine what we've
learned about ways to minimize and mitigate wind energy's
adverse/undesirable impacts on wildlife and their habitats; and to
identify gaps in knowledge and research needs. This workshop will
discuss the following topics:

Interaction of wind power facilities and birds pre- and post-construction;

Interaction of wind power facilities and bats pre- and post-construction;
Applicable methods and study designs specialized for birds, bats, and
common to both;
Assessing impacts and risk to wildlife;
Identification of critical gaps in knowledge related to wind project
decision-making. Attempt to identify what is needed to fill these gaps.

On behalf of the planning committee, NWCC staff will be accepting
abstracts for papers to be presented at the workshop, and will pass
abstract submissions on to the workshop planning committee for review
and approval. Abstracts not accepted for presentation may be
selected for presentation at a poster session. The planning
committee is looking particularly for papers with research that has
been conducted since November 2004. Your submission should include
an abstract no longer than one page in length, single-spaced, 12
point font.  The abstract should include, at a minimum;

research objectives, including hypotheses being tested,
methodology, statistical analyses, timeframe,
location,
principles involved, and
a brief statement of results (preliminary if necessary; no anecdotal
"findings" please).

Please send your submissions electronically, in Word or PDF format,
to Madeleine West at <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]>[EMAIL PROTECTED] no
later than May 31. If you are unable to meet this deadline please
notify Madeleine West no later than May 31 of your intent to
submit. The planning committee will review submissions and notify
authors of acceptance by mid-July.

Questions or comments related to the meeting and paper submission may
be directed to Abby Arnold,
