POSITION DUTIES: The Department of Natural Resources Ecosystem Analysis
Center is currently accepting applications for a Water Resources
Engineer III, located in our Annapolis, MD headquarters office. This
position is responsible for the development of integrated natural
resource and water quality assessments to be applied to water and
natural resource management plans, studies, projects, analytical tools
and guidance documents. This position will be the lead for outreach and
application development for Maryland's Green Infrastructure Assessment
(GIA), a highly visible and important project that is the cornerstone of
the State's land conservation planning. More on the GIA can be found

Applicant duties will focus on integrating principles of land, water and
systems ecology through a Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
environment which is the modeling framework for the GIA and other
resource assessments. Preference will be given to applicants who have
experience compiling, reviewing and organizing spatial data, using
ArcGIS software (ArcView, ArcInfo) and GIS programming languages (AML,
Avenue, VBA). Other responsibilities include technical writing,
presenting at conferences, and coordinating development and review of
the GIA with federal, state, county, and private organizations.

ENVIRONMENTAL OPTION

Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree in sanitary, public
health, environmental, civil, chemical engineering from an accredited
four-year college or university.

Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering and 16 semester credit
hours in biology, hydrology, hydraulics, ecology, and pollution control
from an accredited four-year college or university.

OR

Possession of a bachelor's degree in the areas of environmental
technology, agronomy, ecology, geotechnology, or agriculture with 20
semester credit hours in engineering; 16 semester credit hours in
ecology biology, and pollution control; and a course in differential
equations from an accredited four-year college or university

Experience: Two years of professional experience in an environmental
engineering field directly related to water pollution control.

Notes: Applicants may substitute for one year of experience
fifteen (15) semester credit hours of graduate-level course work in
environmental and/or sanitary engineering. Any credits used in meeting
the minimum qualifications cannot be used for this substitution.

HYDROLOGY OPTION
=20
Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering and 12
semester credit hours of course work in hydrology or hydraulics-related
subjects at an accredited four-year college or university. The
following courses are acceptable: basic and intermediate hydraulics,
fluid mechanics, engineering analysis and computer programming, surface
water hydrology, and groundwater hydrology.

Experience: Two years of professional experience in
hydrology/hydraulics involving the analysis of technical data, designs,
and/or specifications of engineering systems, utilities, and support
facilities related to hydrologic systems.

Notes: Applicants may substitute for one year of experience
fifteen (15) semester credit hours of graduate-level course work in the
fields of hydrology and/or hydraulics at an accredited college or
university. Any credits used in meeting the minimum qualifications can
not be used for this substitution.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's or graduate level coursework must include 16 credit hours in
any of the following fields: natural resources management, ecological
modeling, conservation biology, general ecology, community, landscape
and/or ecosystems ecology, restoration ecology, water quality
management, wildlife biology, environmental science, natural science.

QUALIFICATIONS: You must possess the minimum (and selective, if
applicable) qualifications to be considered for this position. If you
are scheduled to complete an educational or licensing requirement within
six months of the assessment, you may participate in the examination
process. Permanent State employees may also complete necessary
experience requirements within six months of the date of the assessment.
However, such candidates will not appear on eligibility lists until
documentation has been received that the educational and experience
requirements have been met. Credit may be given for relevant part-time,
temporary, or volunteer experience, if you list the number of hours
worked per week. All information used to determine your qualifications
must be submitted by the closing date. Therefore, be sure that you
accurately and thoroughly complete the application.
