Silviculture and Forest Ecosystem Productivity The Department of Forestry at Michigan State University is seeking a full-time (12 month) tenure-track, Assistant Professor of Silviculture and Forest Ecosystem Productivity (70% research, 30% teaching) with a focus on the biology and management of forests as part of Michigan's developing bio-economy. This position affords an opportunity for research and graduate instruction in areas including: management of forest ecosystem productivity, forest restoration, fuels management, and/or pest and pathogen management. The successful applicant will be expected to develop a nationally recognized research program in Silviculture. Initial teaching duties will include undergraduate and graduate courses in Silviculture and a undergraduate course in Wildland Fire. A Ph.D. in Silviculture or a related field is required by the time of appointment. Postdoctoral experience, a successful record of obtaining research grants, publications in leading refereed journals, teaching experience, and knowledge of forest stand dynamics and underlying processes for managed systems are desirable. Forest-based research and recreational opportunities abound in Michigan, with a land base that is over 50% forested.
