I've always had pretty good luck with Sony Soundforge. However, that pr= ogram's kinda expensive, and it has a LOT of bells and whistles that you= may or may not need so if you're looking for a free route you can actua= lly use Microsoft's built in Movie Maker program on XP. Just ignore the= video section and just import the audio and split it as you see fit, li= ke into 700mb sections (roughly one cd). The only problem is it saves i= t as a wmv file, but you can re-convert it to mp3 with another program l= ike dBpoweramp, which is also completely free.
Not only can you use dBpoweramp (http://www.dbpoweramp.com), to convert = the file format, but you can also convert it to the same format with a l= ower bitrate which would make it smaller as well. If push comes to shove, just send them to me via an e-courier like www.d= ropload.com or something similar and I'll try to split them for you as y= ou see fit. If you want, I'll add bass and drums for no charge. Kenny = G and Coyote Old Man made pretty good careers that way :) Hope that helps. =20 Jacob Lowe Program Advisor =5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F=5F Projects Abroad North America Toll free USA: 1 888 839 3535 Toll Free Canada: 1 877 921 9666 http://www.projects-abroad.org=20 Projects Abroad blog http://blog.projects-abroad.net Projects Abroad on MySpace http://www.myspace.com/projectsabroad Date: Thu, 5 Jul 2007 09:08:59 -0400 From: "Isabelle-Anne Bisson (" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: splitting large sound files =20 Dear colleagues, =20 We have very large sound files (MP3, 1.5-2GB in size) from=20 recordings conducted in the field and are unable to open them in the sound analysis program we are currently using.=20 The program somehow compresses them randomly into shorter files.
