Post-Doctoral Researcher, Modeling of species responses to climate
change
Location: University of California, Santa Barbara
This position is a post-doctoral fellowship to model the direct
effects of climate change on species' distributions. The research
will focus on modeling of species distribution responses to climate
change, using GAM, MaxEnt and other statistical tools, as well as more
sophisticated, dynamic models of species' response under development
in the lab. The researcher will model changes in species
distributions due to climate change, compile and refine datasets of
species locations suitable for modeling, and test and cross-validate
models. Research will include global analyses, modeling of California
species, and species from other locations, including Madagascar and
the Galapagos. Field visits to gather model parameters may be
required. The researcher will also post-process models, including
creation of range shift maps and extraction of statistics about degree
and direction of range shift.
PhD in Ecological Modeling or Ecological Statistics required.
Knowledge of GAM, GLM, Maxentropy and Kappa and AUC testing and
validation protocols. Full fluency in GIS environments required,
fluency in Matlab strongly preferred. Knowledge of other ecological
modeling techniques (e.g., gap models) desirable.
