Description: Spend 6 months working and camping outside at some of Nevadas premier natural areas. Serve alongside AmeriCorps and international volunteers from across the country while making a lasting contribution to Nevadas natural heritage. Work with the Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service, National Park Service, and local and state agencies to gain valuable field experience while working to reduce hazardous fuels, restore habitat, construct trail and eradicate invasive species.
Compensation: This is an AmeriCorps position, and candidates will receive a living stipend of $7,158 for 6 months of service. This is not an hourly wage or a salary and is paid to members bi‐monthly throughout the entire year. Upon completion of AmeriCorps service members shall receive an additional education award in the amount of $2,362 that can be used for paying off student loans, or paying tuition for a Title IV accredited college. Timeline: March 30, 2009 September 28, 2009 Conservation Projects: Forest thinning Habitat restoration Riparian rehabilitation Exotic species removal Trail building and rehabilitation Duties: Maintaining a positive and professional attitude at all times while providing service Communicating with agency project staff Complying with both production and quality work standards established by NCC administration, crew supervisors and project partners Contributing to basic duties at the campsite including cooking, cleaning and organizing crew equipment Work Schedule: Crew members serve in the field Monday through Thursday, 10 hours a day. Training: Members will participate in orientation from March 30, 2009 to April 3, 2009, where they will receive training in chainsaw use, leave‐no-trace ethics, CPR/First Aid, and effective citizenship.
