Job Description: Data Manger/ Assistant Ecologist will be responsible for managing all data (GIS, excel, photos, etc.) associated with a large-scale habitat assessment project. Project involves eight field technicians and five study areas based out of LaBarge, Big Piney and Rawlins, WY. Data manager will work with Ecologist to train field technicians in proper data collection and management techniques and function as an expert resource. Data manager will assist with all pre-season preparations, landowner contacts and coordinate all gear logistics with Ecologist and GIS Manager, manage the gear check-in and check-out process, inventory, care and maintenance of gear throughout the field season. Extensive travel to field sites is required. As time is available, data manager may also function as a field technician. Experience with plant identification, ungulate ecology, navigation, GPS/GIS, data entry and data management necessary. Applicant should possess a BS (MS preferred) in Botany, Range Science, Wildlife, Ecology, Resource Management or related field and should be in excellent physical condition. Data manager and technicians will be supervised by Ecologist based in Jackson, Wyoming. Data manager will also be based in Jackson, WY. Preferred start date is the beginning of April. Qualifications In addition to technicians’ qualifications (below), applicants should have: • Excellent data management, Excel and GIS skills • Excellent plant identification skills • The ability to clearly articulate when teaching others and communicating with landowners • A can-do attitude and flexibility with job duties • A safe driving record • The ability to work well with a diverse group of people Technicians qualifications: • BS in Botany, Range Science, Wildlife, Ecology, Resource Management or related field • Familiarity with moose and mule deer ecology • Knowledge of ranch communities and operations • Demonstrated ability to navigate using aerial photos, topo maps, GPS and compass • Experience working independently and as part of a field crew • Experience with GIS, Excel and data management • Ability to hike for several hours in rugged terrain • Willingness to work long hours in difficult field conditions • Experience with ATVs and horses (not required by all – please indicate your ability level) • Excellent communication skills • Positive attitude • WFA and CPR certifications required • Background/ driving check required Please submit a letter of interest, resume, and contact information for 3 references to Megan Smith, Ecologist, before March 15, 2009. email: megan.sm...@tetonscience.org ; phone: (307) 734-3786
