Ph.D. Research Positions at Florida International University. The NASA funded WaterSCAPES University Research Center at Florida International University has 4 Ph.D. positions available in two departments: (1) Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (2 positions), and (2) the newly created Department of Earth and the Environment (2 positions).
The focus of WaterSCAPES is to address the stocks and fluxes of water, energy, nutrients and vegetative biomass through a quantitative approach that combines remote sensing observations (radar and optical), mathematical modeling of ecohydrologic processes and field ecophysiological experiments. The proposed work will be performed on two wetland ecosystems: the Everglades of South Florida and the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve in the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico. Students with interest in hydrological modeling, remote sensing, and/or field based ecohydrological investigations are encouraged to apply. Full 12-month stipends and tuition are available with support up to 5 years. US Citizenship is required. Students interested in working on modeling energy and water fluxes in a coupled wetland-urban-agriculture interfaced ecosystems setting in South Florida can contact Assefa Melesse at mele...@fiu.edu<mailto:mele...@fiu.edu>.
