JOB TITLE: Ecohealth Project Coordinator, Davee Center for Epidemiology and Endocrinology

GENERAL SUMMARY


Lincoln Park Zoo is seeking applicants for an EcoHealth Coordinator within the Davee Center for Epidemiology and Endocrinology. The successful candidate will coordinate and participate (to varying degrees) in a broad variety of research activities within the health-related scientific disciplines within the Department of Conservation and Science. The Ecohealth project coordinator will also serve as a conduit between the Davee Center and the zoo’s Urban Wildlife Institute, as well as maintaining a large number of external collaborative partners.



GENERAL JOB FUNCTIONS


· Organization and coordination of multiple large-scale EcoHealth projects; · Communication - written and oral - with a vast array of collaborative partners (local and national government agencies, nongovernmental organizations, foundations, universities as well as the AZA zoological community and general public); and · Assist with epidemiological and endocrinological research where appropriate, including potential laboratory and field settings.

SPECIFIC JOB FUNCTIONS
· Support implementation and coordination of existing and new AZA disease surveillance and monitoring programs (Avian Influenza, Tuberculosis and West Nile Virus), and other AZA based projects, in conjunction with all partners; · Organize and manage a biomaterial archiving system in a laboratory setting; · Develop publications, reports, websites and newsletters in conjunction with appropriate LPZ staff/departments; · Assist with administrative duties for the Davee Center including but not limited to meeting planning, budgetary duties, travel planning and word processing.
·         Advise volunteers and interns when appropriate;
· Attend Lincoln Park Zoo and/or Davee Center foundation-related activities as necessary; and
·         Perform other duties as assigned by the director of the Davee Center.




KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES


· Demonstrate a basic understanding of ecology, epidemiology and endocrinology for collaborative purposes (active research in these disciplines is preferred); · Possess expertise in the specific areas covered in ‘essential job functions’; · Possess strong computer (Microsoft Office including excel, access, word and powerpoint), organizational (project management) and communication skills (written and spoken); and · Demonstrate a commitment to wildlife conservation through management of wild and captive populations, and willingness to participate in the department’s team approach to conservation research projects.



EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS


· Preference of Master’s degree, MPH or BS with experience in the scientific disciplines of ecology, epidemiology or a closely related biological discipline.



EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS


· Experience participating in and/or leading large collaborative projects/workshops;
·         Experience supervising volunteers, interns and/or assistants; and
·         Broad training in statistical study design and analysis.




ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS


·         Must be able to work up to 10 weekends per year.
