As I suspected, I know that site. Monteverde Biological Station, correct? The Hotel Del Mar is at the base of the trail. I remember staying there in my last quarter of undergrad, as part of my course in Tropical Biology. The Station's network of trails are on the Pacific slope, with one running along the Continental Divide. I recall at least one trail goung down the Caribbean slope and fading out; but since that was 'way back in 1996, it may have been extended by now. Altogether an excellent research site -- without the tourists who come through the Reserve. Jason Hernandez East Carolina University <<Regarding the previous post about the Cloud Forest field station, I was asked by Doug Tallamy to tell the list where exactly the reserve is located. The trailhead into the reserve is approximately a 30 minute slow drive with another hour moderate hike outside of Santa Elena, near Monteverde. The land is connected through forest corridors to the Monteverde reserve. Additionally there is continuous forest almost all the way to Lake Arenal. If you have additional questions about location or anything else, feel free to let me know.
