Nicole,
This is a very important story that the American media is largely
avoiding (credit to the election season being a reality TV show?). The
BBC is doing an okay job of coverage, at least by mentioning that it is
happening, and they are reporting that the Danube is under less threat
than the other areas that have already been sludged. Let's hope this
report is true. Not sure I believe that dumping tons of acid into a
river to neutralize tons of alkali is really less of a threat, but at
least mitigating actions are in place. I hope that the American media
or at least one or two politicians hear about this. Maybe it might help
people realize the problem of water contamination from industry and
maybe the Marcellus Shale companies will tread a little more lightly
across the forests of Pennsylvania. High hopes.

This is disastrous. Worst part is none of the media (except PBS) is
reporting on this.
