Applications are being accepted for a postdoctoral position in African savanna tree community dynamics, with a target start date of 01 February 2011 (start date flexible). The position will initially be for one year, with a second year contingent upon performance. The successful applicant will take a leading role in an NSF-funded project led by T. Michael Anderson, from Wake Forest University (http://www.wfu.me/andersonlab/), and Ricardo Holdo, from the University of Missouri (http://holdolab.biology.missouri.edu/), aimed at elucidating the factors that limit tree recruitment across a savanna soil moisture gradient. The project will be conducted in Serengeti National Park, Tanzania, and the successful candidate will use our facilities there as a base of operations for the majority of their time on the project. In addition to training as a savanna plant ecologist, other desirable skills include strong quantitative expertise or a willingness to acquire them and GIS. Knowledge of Swahili is a plus. Due to the logistical difficulties of managing a project in a remote field location in east Africa, candidates with prior experience working under similar conditions in a foreign country will be highly favored. Salary is USD $40,000 per yr with a competitive benefits package. Interested applicants should submit a 1-2 page cover letter describing their prior research experience and suitability for the project and a curriculum vita (including contact information for three references) as a single pdf file to: andersonlab...@gmail.com.
