PhD opportunities in Conservation Paleobiology, Historical Ecology, and
Taphonomy at Oregon State University

Are you interested in questions relating to conservation paleobiology,
historical ecology, or the taphonomy of terrestrial vertebrates? Are you
independent, highly motivated, and already have some research experience under
your belt?

Current research in our lab is examining the effects of climate change and
anthropogenic impacts on prehistoric and historic small mammal community
structure, temporal variation in small mammal dietary niches reconstructed
using isotopes, and the taphonomy of raptor midden assemblages. We address
these topics using a combination of field surveys, museum records, and
laboratory-based analyses. In addition to ongoing research in the Great Basin,
future work will be focused in the Pacific Northwest, though students will be
free to work in whatever system is best suited to answering their questions.

Oregon State University is a Land, Sea, Space, and Sun Grant University
recognized both nationally and internationally for research excellence in
ecology and the geosciences. Details about the PhD program in the Department
of Zoology, student support, and the application process can be found at:
http://zoology.science.oregonstate.edu/pro-grad. Located in the Willamette
Valley, members of the OSU community enjoy the high quality of life and
beautiful natural surroundings the region provides, from the coast to the
Cascades.

Interested individuals should email me, Rebecca Terry, at
[email protected]. Please attach a single pdf document
that includes a brief description of your research interests and why you would
like to join the lab, a CV (including GPA and GRE scores), and contact
information for three references. Note that your formal application for Fall
2013 admission must go to OSU’s PhD program by December 15th.
