Invasive Plant Early Detection Internship

Job description: (GGNRA), located in the San Francisco Bay Area, is seeking 
two interns to assist with early detection, mapping, and removal of invasive 
plants. The interns will work closely with park staff, other interns, and 
volunteers for two park programs, the Inventory and Monitoring Early 
Detection Team and the GGNRA Habitat Restoration Team. The interns will work 
primarily in GGNRA but will also travel occasionally to Point Reyes National 
Seashore and Pinnacles National Monument.  If you are excited to take on 
challenging fieldwork, learn to identify and control invasive plants, learn 
GPS and GIS mapping techniques, and work in spectacular national parks, then 
please contact us. Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent 
experience) in biological science or a related field, basic computer skills 
and a valid California driver’s license. Desirable qualifications include 
training/experience in plant taxonomy, restoration, horticulture, surveying, 
mapping, GPS/GIS, and Access database. Interns must be able to work full 
days in difficult field conditions which may include strenuous hiking and 
manual labor in rugged terrain and adverse weather conditions. Work in dense 
poison oak will occur several days a week. Exposure to ticks is not 
uncommon. Although we will provide protective equipment to interns, please 
do not apply if you have any hesitation about these matters.
Term: March 18, 2013 – August 31, 2013. Shared park housing is provided, as 
is $125 per week (paid bi-weekly) for meals and out-of-pocket expenses. 
Occasionally, interns may need to drive a personal vehicle for work (mileage 
costs will be reimbursed).
