Hello All,

I am a recent colleague graduate looking for a career within the
environmental field but am having an extremely difficult time finding a
career opportunity. I received a Bachelor's degree in Biology and a
Master's degree in Environmental Studies. I have interned with two of
Virginia's environmental agencies, Dept. of Environmental Quality and Dept.
of Conservation & Recreation, within the Wetland and Water Protection
department and the Natural Heritage Program, respectively. Currently, I
work for a liability company who is contracted by the dept. of
Environmental Quality to process reimbursement for petroleum remediation. I
am grateful that all of these positions have helped me gain knowledge in
environmental policy and regulation and I have come to the conclusion that
environmental regulation is where I'd enjoy beginning my career. However,
it seems that these sorts of jobs are few and far between.

Is there someone out there who knows where to look for opportunities or how
to go about networking in DC and the surrounding areas? Does anyone
recommend submitting my resume to companies and/or agencies without a
specific job in mind?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I am looking to move up to
Northern Virginia within the next few months, but I cannot do so until I
find a job. I would hate to move away from the environmental field since
that is where my passion lies.....but I don't know what else there is to
do.

Thanks,
Rachel
