The best response to Wilson's op-ed I have read so far is by Jeremy Fox on the Dynamic Ecology blog, which he has been updating with links to posts and comments by others on the internets:

While some of the arguments (from both Wilson and his critics) fall into the question-begging or point-missing category, many others are well worth a read, and more than a little thought. And the above blog post is a good place to start.
