Maybe taking trains has no effect now, but if we increase the demand, then according to all the economic laws the prices will go up and the service ought to expand and get bigger... Still, it was extremely disappointing to read how much effort was allocated to remove passengers from trains despite the demand at the time (e.g. E.B. White's The Railroad, pages 208-224 in Essays of E.B. White).

who loves the trains and high speed rail of Taiwan and Japan and who, every few years, investigates the cost and time of taking cargo ship (because there are no longer passenger ships) and train from Taiwan to Kentucky.
