Teaching Faculty, Department of Environmental Studies Status: Fulltime (Spring and Summer 2014 semesters) Start date: Spring semester 2014
*The Position* The Department offers a fulltime, temporary, two-term teaching faculty appointment in its innovative, interdisciplinary graduate programs leading to master’s and doctoral degrees in environmental studies. The selected candidate will teach graduate courses in vertebrate ecology and quantitative research techniques. Courses may include Wildlife Sampling Methods, Vertebrate Ecology, Research Strategies, and Introductory GIS. The successful candidate will also be consistently available to students, providing academic and research advice, as well as other duties. Spring semester classes are taught on Thursdays and Fridays in 3-hour blocks over 15 weeks. The summer course is taught as an intensive over 5-7 days in June. Candidates must possess a PhD in Environmental Studies or related field, with teaching experience in higher education through creative and experiential approaches. Capacity to actively engage students and facilitate their effective use of statistics to analyze and interpret environmental data is required. Specialization in vertebrate or quantitative ecology is preferred. Professional experience demonstrating the application of statistics methods in the environmental field is preferred. Theoretical and practical experience with statistics is also preferred.
