POSITION: Assistant Professor of Fisheries Population Ecology. The Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Aquaculture, Mississippi State University (MSU), is seeking applications for a 12-month tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank. This person will be involved in research, teaching, and service. LOCATION: This position is on the MSU campus, located in Starkville, Mississippi. STARTING: July 1, 2014, or as negotiated. REVIEW: Review of applicants will begin December 16, 2013 and continue until a suitable applicant is identified. RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach two undergraduate courses annually, with primary courses in Fisheries Management and Fisheries Science (generally taught in alternate years), and a course in the candidate’s area of expertise (e.g., population dynamics). Develop a rigorous, extramurally-funded research program involving fisheries population ecology complementary to the Department’s faculty. Research opportunities are expected to be available in freshwater and coastal fishery systems. Demonstrate an ability to communicate with a diversity of cultures and stakeholder groups. Support the land-grant mission of MSU. Work collaboratively with faculty within the CFR and FWRC at Mississippi State University and elsewhere as appropriate. QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. (degree conferred is preferable) with expertise in fisheries ecology, fisheries management or a related discipline. Potential areas of investigation may include, but are not limited to: fisheries management, fisheries biology, stock assessment and population/community dynamics. Preferred qualifications: expertise in a variety of fisheries sampling techniques and systems; experience with decision analysis; post-doctoral research experience; and mentoring and teaching experience. We expect excellence in teaching, a commitment to grant writing, facilitation of graduate students, publication of peer-reviewed literature, and a commitment to service.
