The Leibniz Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB) is the largest freshwater ecology institute in Germany (www.igb-berlin.de<http://www.igb-berlin.de>). It is a member of the Forschungsverbund Berlin e.V. (FVB), the Leibniz Association (www.leibniz-gemeinschaft.de/en<http://www.leibniz-gemeinschaft.de/en>), and the recently founded Berlin-Brandenburg Institute of Advanced Biodiversity Research (www.bbib.org<http://www.bbib.org>). Joint professorships link the insitute to all three universities in Berlin as well as to the University of Potsdam. IGB offers excellent laboratory and large-scale experimental facilities, long-term research programs and data sets, and an open collaborative atmosphere. We invite applications for a Tenure-track position in Aquatic Ecology as part of our Frontiers in Freshwater Science Program to strengthen research on lake ecosystems. This includes investigations into global-change impacts on lakes, which can be studied in a new experimental field facility (www.lake-lab.de<http://www.lake-lab.de>), and analyses of long-term data sets on Lake Stechlin and other lakes in the area. The position is based at the Department of Experimental Limnology 80 km north of Berlin, Germany. The specific area of expertise for the position is open. However, we particularly welcome applications by ecological modellers who are keen on confronting theory with experimental data, and by empirical ecologists with an interest in theory. Topics of special interest include food-web and biogeochemical modelling, phytoplankton community dynamics, ecological stoichiometry, ecosystem processes, and food-web interactions. Successful candidates hold a doctoral degree in ecology, environmental science or a related field. A strong publication record, advanced numerical skills, expertise in the ecology of aquatic communities or ecosystems, interest in large-scale experiments, experience in the analysis of large data sets, and postdoctoral experience are assets. Proficiency in German is not required. Salaries are according to the standard rates of German federal government employees (TVöD). Contracts are initially for two or three years. Tenure is contingent on performance according to a set of agreed criteria. Please submit a motivation letter, complete CV, including a list of publications, and a statement of past and future research interests, copies of three publications, and the names and contact information of three referees. All application documents should be assembled in a single PDF file and sent to Ms Edith Tesch at stech...@igb-berlin.de<mailto:stech...@igb-berlin.de>. Review of the applications will begin on 28 February 2014 and will continue until the position has been filled. For further enquiries, please contact Dr. Mark Gessner at stech...@igb-berlin.de<mailto:stech...@igb-berlin.de>. The IGB and FVB are equal opportunity employers and specifically welcome applications by women. Preference will be given to applicants with disabilities when qualifications are equivalent.
