POSITION DESCRIPTION: Golden Gate National Recreation Area is seeking two interns to assist with early detection, mapping, and removal of invasive plants. The interns will work closely with park staff, other interns, and volunteers for two park programs, the Inventory and Monitoring Early Detection Team and the GGNRA Habitat Restoration Team. The interns will work primarily in GGNRA but will also travel occasionally to Point Reyes National Seashore and Pinnacles National Monument. If you are excited to take on challenging fieldwork, learn to identify and control invasive plants, learn GPS and GIS mapping techniques, and work in spectacular national parks, then please contact us. REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have a bachelors degree (or equivalent experience) in biological science or a related field, basic computer skills and a valid California drivers license. Desirable qualifications include training/experience in plant taxonomy, invasive plant removal, restoration, horticulture, surveying, mapping, GPS/GIS, and Access database. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Interns must be able to work full days, conducting manual labor in difficult field conditions which may include strenuous hiking and manual labor in rugged terrain and adverse weather conditions. Work in dense poison oak will occur several days a week. Exposure to ticks is not uncommon. Although we will provide protective equipment to interns, please do not apply if you have any hesitation about these matters. TERM: March 17 August 31, 2014. Interns will be paid $30 per day (paid every two weeks) for meals and out-of-pocket expenses. Shared park housing is provided.
