Graduate Assistantship in Environmental Sustainability 2015-16- Plymouth
State University, New Hampshire

Looking for a unique graduate experience that blends ENVIRONMENTAL RESEARCH
with SUSTAINABILITY and GIS?

The MASTER'S PROGRAM in ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE AND POLICY at Plymouth State
University (NH), in conjunction with the Office of Environmental
Sustainability and the Center for the Environment, is recruiting a graduate
student for AY 2015-16 to serve as a Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) and
Sustainability Fellows Program Coordinator for the Office of Environmental
Sustainability (OES). Plymouth State University is located in central New
Hampshire at the gateway to the White Mountains and the Lakes Region in the
quaint town of Plymouth, PSU is within minutes of ski resorts, lakes, and
parks and only two hours from Boston.

Graduate Assistantship Description:

Graduate research will focus on the analysis of statewide bicycling and
pedestrian using GIS data and analyses to better understand walking and
biking patterns throughout New Hampshire (NH) and to help identify barriers
to increased activity. The GRA will help transform manual, automated, and
phone-app derived data into reliable metrics of road use and avoidance
using GIS. Ideally, data analysis will 1) identify spatiotemporal patterns
of biking and walking in NH, 2) identify hotspots of activity that may
become the impetus for greater investment in healthy and sustainable
community entrepreneurship (e.g. bike shops, cafes), 3) identify underused
transportation corridors and investigate potential barriers to use, and 4)
provide a baseline assessment from which core indicators of biking and
walking activity can be derived and integrated into statewide health and
transportation reports. At the same time, the student will act as the OES
Sustainability Fellows Program Coordinator, serving as a point of contact
in OES for the other students employed in OES and for faculty, staff, and
students at PSU for the academic year, under the supervision of the
Director of the OES. The OES Graduate Student Assistant also engages in
other events and activities in support of the OES efforts as needed.

**The Graduate Assistantship will provide tuition and stipend support to
the selected student for the 2015-16 academic year.
