The Department of Biology at Georgia Southern University invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Plant Biology. Reporting to the Department Chair, the position of Assistant Professor of Plant Biology requires research, teaching, and service responsibilities, as well as a terminal degree in the Biological Sciences or other relevant field. The successful candidate will conduct externally funded research on plant ecology, plant physiology, or their interface, as well as teach undergraduate and graduate courses. Research that can complement our department’s integrative program exploring the biology of the Southeastern coastal plain is especially welcome. The Department of Biology is housed in a new 158,000-square-foot Biological Sciences Building, and resources include a 2800-square-foot greenhouse and the Georgia Southern University herbarium. The position is a 9-month, tenure-track appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Required qualifications are a doctorate in Biological Sciences or a related field by 31 December 2015, demonstrated excellence in research, potential to attract extramural funding, and expertise to teach Biology of Plants and a course in plant ecology or physiology. Post-doctoral experience preferred. Deadline for receipt of applications is 26 October 2015. The preferred position starting date is 1 August 2016.
