Applications are invited for a permanent research scientist position
in *integrated
pest management *at the Atlantic Forestry Centre of the Canadian Forest
Service – Natural Resources Canada, in Corner Brook, Newfoundland and
Labrador (http://www.nrcan.gc.ca/forests/research-centres/afc/13447). You
will contribute to the development of ecologically-based integrated pest
management strategies in the boreal forest by working on a variety of
insect pests damaging forests of Newfoundland and Labrador. Research may
involve developing methods to monitor population trends, identifying life
stages and environmental drivers that are key to understanding and
predicting population levels, and assessing and developing control
strategies. You will collaborate extensively with colleagues in the
Canadian Forest Service, the Newfoundland Forest Service and academia. The
successful candidate will have a PhD in entomology or a related aspect of
ecology, demonstrated productivity in the form of authorship in
peer-reviewed journals and experience in analysing insect populations and
their impact on forests. In addition, we seek a team player with an
aptitude for exchanging knowledge with natural resource management
agencies. Proficiency in English is essential. Persons residing in Canada
and Canadian citizens residing abroad may apply but preference will be
given to Canadian citizens.


The AFC-Corner Brook lab is located in the Forest Centre, Grenfell Campus,
Memorial University of Newfoundland. Corner Brook is a small vibrant city
with many services, located on the spectacular west coast of Newfoundland (

adventure and the arts in the mountains and by the sea.
