Dear Ecologers, I am a master’s student at Illinois State University in Dr. Rebekka Gougis’ biology education lab and I am conducting a study examining student motivation towards undergraduate research experiences. The purpose of this study will be to explore how these experiences help shape scientific identity (specifically in regard to biology) and may help lead to persistence in STEM disciplines. We are recruiting undergraduate biology students (18 years and older) who are currently (or very recently) conducting biological research to participate in an online survey which we expect to take approximately 30 minutes. The questions will relate to your current/most recent undergraduate experiences and personal career aspirations. Your participation is voluntary and the survey can be completed clicking on the following link: https://survey.lilt.ilstu.edu/TakeSurvey.aspx?SurveyID=ecolog-l
- If you are aware of other undergraduate students currently conducting (or recently completed) any form of biological research, please feel free to pass along the above link. - If you oversee or know of an academic program that would be interested in distributing this survey to a group of students, please contact Andrew McDevitt ([email protected]) and we can provide you a unique url for those students. Once the study has concluded, we can provide information about how the school/research group compares to national benchmarks. Thank you very much for your time and interest in this study. If you have any questions related to the study, please contact the following e-mail addresses ([email protected] or [email protected]). Your opinions will be invaluable to the success of this research study. Sincerely, Andrew L.
