Graduate positions available in social-ecological systems research are
available in Rebecca Hale’s lab in the Department of Biological Sciences at
Idaho State University

I am seeking one to two graduate students (MS or PhD) to start Summer or
Fall 2016. Funding is available as a mix of research and teaching
assistantships. We use ecosystems ecology and social-ecological systems
approaches to understand the effects of human activities on ecological
processes and how coupled social-ecological systems change over space and
time. Current research ranges from local studies of urban stormwater and
streams to regional research on water quality to continental-scale
comparisons of urban water management.

Potential graduate student projects include: 1) study of the effects of
development and stream flow permanence on watershed exports of water,
sediment, and nutrients, 2) study of human-stream interactions along land
use gradients, and 3) study of flood management impacts on urban ecosystem
services, risk, and human-environment interactions. There is also the
potential for students to develop their own research projects within these
research themes.

The student will also have the opportunity to interact with an
interdisciplinary and cross-campus group of researchers through MILES
(https://www.idahoecosystems.org/), an Idaho-wide research program to
understand changes in social-ecological systems and ecosystem services.

If interested, please send a letter with your research interests,
experiences, and career goals, and a CV to Dr. Rebecca Hale at
haler...@isu.edu. Visit the lab website (http://rebeccahale.weebly.com/) for
more information about current lab research.
