Salary Range

Salary Range: $40,548 - $71,532

Beginning Salary: $40,548 - $46,488 depending upon qualification.

Duties and Responsibilities

Works collaboratively with Forestry Division and other land management staff to assess needs and implement applied research on silviculture and forest stand dynamics as related to forest-system management; cooperates and collaborates with other resource division personnel, designs, budgets, directs and conducts multiple, high priority research, monitoring and evaluation, and adaptive management projects; develops and directs components of the long-term, large-scale, silviculture-related Missouri Ozark Forest Ecosystem Project (MOFEP); chairs the MOFEP Steering Committee and coordinates scientific studies in collaboration with a diversity of principle investigators from multiple agencies; works collaboratively with field and research staff on multi-disciplinary ecosystem-based management projects; designs and implements new research projects; works closely with Resource Staff Scientist and MOFEP field coordinator at Ellington, MO and graduate research assistants; analyzes and interprets data using a wide variety of statistical methods and prepares scientific manuscripts, reports, forest management notes, popular articles, and presentations to communicate research results; provides silvicultural monitoring and evaluation assistance to Department of Conservation regions statewide; provides information to field staff regarding new technologies and research findings to improve efficiency and effectiveness of management practices; provides silvicultural expertise to managers who would like to implement new or untried practices (e.g., unevenaged forest management for oaks, pine savanna creation); develops and conducts silvicultural training for Conservation Department personnel; prepares seminars and field activities to effectively train personnel in the concepts and implementation of ecologically driven decision-making and subsequent adaptive strategies; develops general work plans, provides input during research project reviews and actively participates on project review teams for other research; maintains the capacity to conduct high-quality research by reading current applicable scientific literature, attending and participating in scientific meetings; collaborates with research and management staff from universities, other state and federal agencies and non-governmental organizations on regional and inter-regional issues, and participates in continuing education workshops and training courses; and performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's Degree in Forestry and three (3) years of progressively responsible professional experience in silviculture, forest management, stand dynamics, forestry research and/or field forestry work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
