SALARY RANGE: $47,424.00 to $53,996.80 RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides analytical services and information to customers and various City departments; aids and assists with laboratory research projects. The Water Bacteriologists Chemist I performs varied analyses on water samples to ensure that water meets all drinking water standards. The incumbent analyzes groundwater, surface water, water treatment processes, lime residuals and distribution systems. Incumbent must complete accurate and understandable test results for use by the Department while maintaining compliance with regulatory agencies relative to procedures for laboratory certification. Records results, writes reports and interprets results of analytical tests for Department use. Incumbent is to maintain a thorough knowledge of federal EPA and Ohio EPA regulations and guidelines for laboratory procedures. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental or Physical Science or closely related field AND one year of experience in laboratory work performing chemical / bacterial sampling and testing of water. Two years of academic laboratory coursework in the scientific field of study may substitute for one year of experience if degree was obtained within the past 12 months. Degree must be from a college or university that is accredited by the U.S. Department of Education through the North Central Association of Colleges and Universities or equivalent region. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must meet the following: 1. Within 3 months of appointment, must acquire and maintain interim Ohio EPA authorization in Wet Chemistry and MMO-MUG microbiology testing for water. 2. Within 6 months of appointment (or by the earliest available OEPA laboratory survey date), must acquire and maintain full Ohio EPA certifications in Wet Chemistry and Microbiology testing for water. 3. Within 18 months of appointment, must obtain an Ohio EPA Water Supply Operator Class I or higher certification. Must possess a valid driver's license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.
