Marek Landscaping, LLC is a design-build company founded in 1996 that provides sustainable design & construction services using low-impact design methods for native aquatic, riparian, upland, and woodland restorations, shoreline stabilizations, stormwater and erosion control best management practices, multi-use trails, parks and landscapes. We also develop and implement land management plans for these projects ensuring long-term health and viability. Current projects include bluff, shoreline, and wetland restorations for large public projects, non- profits, and private residences. We are currently seeking a mid- to senior-level Ecologist to: • Serve as project manager for multi-disciplinary projects, including being the main point of contact, developing and managing project schedule and budget, directing stewardship staff for completing tasks, conducting internal reviews, and distributing information from the client to the staff. • Mentor and provide training and supervision to restoration foreman, field ecologists, and support staff for habitat restoration and land management projects. • Build and maintain strong client relationships, including proactive and open communication, promotion of services, and coordination of staffing at regional conferences and trade shows. • Perform environmental assessments, ecological inventories, plant surveys, data analysis, monitoring, and report writing and submission. • Plan ecological restoration and management of forests, prairies, savannas, wetlands, and dunes, as well as migratory fish habitat in the estuary environment. • Act as burn boss and ignition specialist during the conduction of prescribed burns. • Maintain pesticide certification and guide the safe and environmentally-informed use and management of herbicides, insecticides, and other chemicals. • Provide training and oversight in all aspects of tree and shrub management, including removal and the safe operation of chainsaws, brush cutters, and other related equipment. • Produce GIS mapping to guide management of projects and to provide project updates and reports. • Safely launch and operate motorized watercraft. • Work independently and as part of a team, often in a cross- disciplinary manor. Qualifications: • Bachelor’s (Master’s preferred) in ecology, botany, natural resource management, environmental science, biology, or related field. • Minimum 5 years professional experience. • Extensive knowledge of local plant taxonomy in Southeastern Wisconsin. • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, Google Earth and ArcGIS. • Wisconsin Pesticide Applicator License. • Prescribed fire certifications for NWCG S-130 and S-190 at minimum and ability to obtain S-234, S-290, S-215, and S-390 within one year of hire. • Class A CDL license with tanker endorsement or ability to obtain license within 6 months of hire. • Effective communication and strong time management skills. • Ability to lift 50lbs and perform strenuous physical work outdoors on potentially steep terrain under a wide variety of weather conditions. • Wetland delineation experience a plus.
